I went to the weight loss seminar about 8 months ago and decided not to do anything at that time. But...the weight is getting worse (I am an stress and emotional eater.) I am "seriously" thinking about rny. I had a meeting with my doctor yesterday and told him I wanted the lap band but admitted I am a grazer and sweet eater. Both he and I know that the rny is better for that type of eater but I am "scared to death" to have rny. (I have a 9-year old and worry about serious complications that can but I know rarely occur.) I am 51 years old 5'2" and 214 pounds, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, joint pain...etc. Also...I take lyrica for fibromyalgia, sleep medicine, and 6 teaspoons of fish oil a day. After this surgery, will I be able to continue my medications?

The more I read about post-op problems including the inability to keep food down and the nausea (I can't stand being nauseated), I keep thinking..."oh, I'm only about 90 pounds overweight...maybe I can do this without the surgery."

Hello and welcome to the board. This is a good place to find out a lot of information from people who have been there and done that. I was also a stress eater, boredom eater, habit eater all that stuff. I knew I had to do something so I chose the RYN. I had a few complications at first. But I do not regret it at all. The first few weeks after surgery I had "head hunger" but after that it all went away. Honesty I have to remind myself to eat sometimes. By the way, I have never had the nausea associated with something I ate. And am not even sure if the complications I had have anything to do with the surgery. Keep doing your research. Good Luck with whatever decision you make.
