My 10 yr old son has been for a consultation at the Birmingham Childrens Hospital to have his ears pinned back. Mr Nishikawa has kindly explained all - It will take about 45mins, risks of bleeding, infection, suture might extrude out and he needs to wear a sweat band at night for 6wks afterwards.
I hope all goes well as he is having a hard time at school.
Anything else I should look out for?

Not to frighten you Joanne but there has been a lot of bad press about the Birmingham Childrens Hospital recently. Although it sounds like it has all been sorted out now.

Sounds to me like there were internal politics at play here.
The problems highlighted in the article are endemic in the NHS and not isolated to Birmingham.
Hiroshi Nishikawa is a first class surgeon and I am certain he will do a great job of the pinnaplasty.

Hiroshi was my registrar when I was a trainee, and we have been consultant colleagues in recent times. He is an extremely competent surgeon who has a great deal of experience.
Give him my regards when you see him.. wish your son all the best.
