What exactly is involved in eye bag removal ? does the surgery take away the complete bag or just reduce it ? is it expensive to have done and how long is recovery ?

Hi Dee, depends how it is done.
I offer transconjunctival blepharoplasty to patients who require more minimalist changes. This is safe, predictable and has a recovery time of only 2 weeks or so.

Conventional 20th century blepharoplasty (winkling fat out through the muscle and relying on skin tension) has been all but abandoned in favour of fat redraping in my practice - this is because conventional blepharoplasty has a high incidence of lower eyelid malposition problems in most large published series.

If fat redraping is combined with midface lift (in the right patient of course) the results can be complete effacement of the bag.
In my opinion fat redraping the existing fat is far better than removing it which can lead to hollowness, I almost never remove fat - orbital fat is a very valuable commodity.
Cost is around £4K (more if combined with the midface lift), recovery 4-6 weeks depending on how it is done.
