I hear of so many people going abroad from Ireland to have surgery done as it is far cheaper and what they do is make little weekend out of it. People always come back looking great, brand new and refreshed however me I think I would be nervous, I would be wondering if the surgeon was properly qualified, especially if it was a Country that was not an English speaking Country. How about you, would you be nervous or go because you are getting a good price ?

I would be nervous, but my being so would be due to the travel required because I am afraid of flying.
Three should be some websites, somewhere, with evaluations by patients that might give you an idea of which doctor is better for any procedure.

With such poor exchange rates I can't see the value of going abroad (for anything at the moment).

If people are going on vacation over a weekend, and having work done, they can't be going very far.
Where are they going?

What happens if you have a problem? I guess you need to go back which would mean even greater expense!

SarahC, you are quite right.
There are many fantastic cosmetic surgeons out there all over the world.
There are a great many more surgeons out there of average ability.
ISAPS (International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) membership is a good starting point for finding a dedicated, competent practitioner.
WRT web reputation - Beware of web forums and sites that promote the reputation of particular practitioners. There are unscrupulous individuals (and companies) out there who pay to have themselves "bigged-up". This practice is extremely widespread in the UK as well as overseas. Although the identity of the less scrupulous companies is widely known throughout the UK industry I am unable for legal reasons to name some of the UK based cosmetic surgery companies who are known to indulge in these underhand practices.
Also do bear in mind that even the very best doctors run into complications occasionally.
The biggest issue to consider is what do you do if you happen to be the unlucky one who has a problem and you are a long way from your doctor?
It is far easier to have things rectified if you undertake treatment closer to your home.

I would be nervous because I'm afraid of doctors in general and of surgeons particularly.
