Hi all
Just read the article written by Mr McDiarmid on Tummy Tucks http://www.cosmeticsurgeryforums.co.uk/showthread.php?p=1045#post1045. From the photos it looks like the women had a tummy tuck and breast op done at the same time? Am I right?

Hi Hope, Yes you are right.
The first lady had an uplift (with no breast implants) at the same time as her tummy tuck. She had adequate breast tissue to not desire or benefit from augmentation.
The second lady had an uplift with implants at the same time as her tummy tuck.
All the pictures show early results (3 months postop) the scars continue to improve for up to 2 years so they show early red scars.
Performing both surgeries simultaneously is not unusual in my practice.

They look amazing afterwards! Were they happy?

Thanks Hope, yes they were both delighted. Combining the surgeries saves on downtime and cost compared to doing them separately.

Hi James
Can you also do liposuction at the same time as a tummy tuck?

Yes, in fact I always perform liposuction at the same time as abdominoplasty. Not only because it helps with contouring but also because I think it helps to preserve vital lymphatic drainage channels in the lower abdomen and reduces the risk of seroma (fluid collection).

I looks like stretch marks disappeared in the process.
Were they just less noticeable after the skin was pulled into position, or was the skin containing them completely removed?

Hi Moondance,
In many cases stretchmarks are removed fully by tummy-tuck surgery. Whether any are left behind really depends most on the distribution of the original stretch marks. If there were stretch marks extending above the belly button then these will probably be left, but with a full tummy-tuck the stretch marks between the level of the belly button and the pubic hair are always removed with the excess skin.
You are right in that remaining stretch marks will be on a background of tighter skin and therefore generally less visible.
(I suppose it might be possible to create new stretch marks if the tummy skin were to be over-tightened - I have never seen this in any of my patients.)
