Hiya - there's not too many threads here on lipo in the UK. Has anyone has lipo done in the UK? Any recommendations on surgeons in London?

I'm fairly slender though have always had issues with flabby thighs.

What are the side effects of lipo? & What's the cost of lipo? Eg say thigh areas only? I can easily get rid of flab on other areas (oh apart from the area under my armpit - I wonder if they'll lipo that?! Ha).

It's just research for the moment. :D

Hello Vanessa
Liposuction and its associated side effects include: pain and discomfort following the procedure, leakage of fluid where we inject the local anaesthetic and saline mix. This is normal and does not last longer than 24 hours. Bruising is quite common and will vary depending on the area treated. It can last for about a month but may take several months to completely disappear. Occasionally, further bleeding may follow this procedure resulting in a haematoma and this may take longer to settle, seroma may also collect in certain areas. Infections, particularly around the incision sites, may occur but we will take every possible precaution to reduce the risk. The small puncture scars may be visible for some time and their location is variable, as is the way the wound heals. There is considerable swelling after the procedure and the full benefits of liposuction may not be visible until all the swelling has disappeared. The swelling can be reduced by the use of pressure garments which will be recommended to you. Occasionally there may be on going pain and discomfort that should reduce with time.

Changes in skin sensitivity may also be experienced; you may feel increased sensitivity or some strange sensations. Occasionally, in the area which has been treated, skin may remain numb. Irregularities in the early stages will improve but certain areas may feel hard in particular if there is any fat necrosis. This will settle given time. However, in certain circumstances you may notice contour irregularities and unevenness of the area which has been treated. This may require further correction. In rare circumstances further correction may not be possible. Following the procedure you may still observe some asymmetry and residual fat and this may require further liposuction. It is important to ensure that, following the procedure, you do not put on further weight as this will change the contour and asymmetry of your body.

The skin may not retract following liposuction and, if you have poor skin tone, you may develop skin laxity. Stretch marks and cellulite will not be improved by this procedure and you may still have a degree of asymmetry following this operation. Occasionally it is better to consider another procedure such as a skin tightening procedure (mini or full abdominoplasty / thigh lift). There is a limit to the amount of fat that may be removed and this should be kept in mind as there is a degree of subjectivity to the final outcome.

For further information I would recommend that you look at the following Department of Health website: www.dh.gov.uk/en/Publichealth/CosmeticSurgery and look up liposuction.

Hi Dalvi. Is Liposuction priced per area or per amount of fat sucked out or time taken?
